Mertens Prime

Mertens Prime is your go-to neighborhood gem, tucked inside the  historic 1914 New Hotel Mertens lobby  (No, it is not still a hotel) in downtown Grand Rapids. This building has been here since the start of Grand Rapids and we want to showcase the space we have mirrored after historic businesses that no longer exist around town. Layered is our vibe and that starts from the original hand-laid tile to the exposed brick. Our walls are decorated dark woods and copper fixtures.

We’re not fine dining—and we’re not trying to be. We serve affordable hand-cut steaks (that we cut in house daily), creative comfort food, and scratch-made favorites without the fuss. Think bold flavors, local ingredients, and a menu that feels just as right for date night as it does for grabbing an appetizer and a glass of wine with friends just because it is a Monday (Yes, we are open Sunday, Monday & Tuesdays!)

Craving a little flair? We offer tableside filet for two, classics like creme brulee, and a full espresso bar—all with a laid-back vibe and zero pretension. We offer birthday specials. We can also pair your dinner with something no other place in Grand Rapids can.... the whole city outside on the rooftop deck when to go upstairs after dinner.
